Quick Explanations
What Is Archiving?
Archiving a Web page means to save a copy of it at an archiving Web site. You can access the archive even if the original page changes or disappears.
Archiving an entire Web site is a larger process not yet covered here.
Which Archive To Choose?
Archiving Web sites can disappear. You can create multiple archives to preserve important information.
The Wayback Machine may prove more reliable than Archive.is, because it's managed by a large organization.
Archive.is sometimes saves with better formatting and may be faster.
Step-By-Step Directions:
- Get the Address of the Web Page to archive
- Every Web page has an URL (Internet Address), found in the URL Bar at the top of the Web Browser. At the page you want to archive, copy the page's URL.
- Go To An Archive Web Site
- Click a button on our Homepage to select and open an archive Web site.
- Enter the URL To Be Archived
- At the archive Web site, click inside the URL Form and paste your page's URL.
- Save Your URL to Create An Archive
- Click Save or Save Page. This button will be on or near the URL Form, depending on the site.
- Your Archive Should Be Ready Momentarily!
- The archive Web site will then save that Web page under a new URL located on its Web site.
- Copy The Address of Your New Archive
- After saving your new archive, the archive Web site will display its URL. Copy that URL so you can file it or send it to others.
- Keep Track of Your Archive(s)
- Depending on your needs, you can send the URL of your new archive to someone, bookmark it for later use, or create a list of your many archives.
